FIIs Lead the Charge in January 2025 with ₹-74,095.60 Crore Net outflow

In January 2025, Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) continued their aggressive selling trend, resulting in a significant net outflow of ₹74,095.60 crore. FIIs recorded a total buy value of ₹199,375.63 crore, but their sell value surged to ₹273,471.23 crore. This heavy selling reflects ongoing caution from global investors, likely influenced by external factors such as global monetary tightening, geopolitical uncertainties, or concerns over valuations in Indian equities. The persistent outflows from FIIs have weighed on the overall market sentiment, highlighting their risk-averse approach during this period.

In stark contrast, Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) remained a pillar of strength for the Indian equity markets, posting a substantial net inflow of ₹73,586.65 crore in January 2025. DIIs reported a total buy value of ₹279,598.76 crore and a sell value of ₹206,012.11 crore, showcasing their confidence in the domestic market’s potential. Their active buying counterbalanced the large-scale FII outflows, providing stability and mitigating volatility. This divergence in behavior between FIIs and DIIs underscores differing investment strategies, with DIIs focusing on India’s growth prospects while FIIs maintained a cautious stance amidst global uncertainties.
